Green Mountain Academy based in Stowe, VT is looking for part-time Freeski coaches as well as a Freeski Head Coach for Winter 23/24 programs.

Coaches must:

  • Be passionate about skiing/snowboarding
  • Love working with youth athletes
  • Have teaching/coaching or competition experience
  • Have or be willing to work toward a certification through US Ski and Snowboard, USASA, IFSA, PSIA, or AASI

Responsibilities:

  • Coach athletes through progression in fundamental, discipline specific, and freestyle skills and toward their goals for improvement and competition.
  • Review goals with athletes and communicate regular verbal feedback to them and their parents.
  • Keep daily written record of skills, progressions, and athlete specific information.
  • Complete athlete evaluations mid-and end of season.
  • Communicate regularly with athletes' parents, other coaches, and supervisors
  • Supervise athletes during snacks, mealtimes, water and bathroom breaks
  • Be on time.
  • Complete US Ski and Snowboard training(s).
  • Participate in GMA trainings.

  • Stowe pass included
  • $20/hr base pay.  Pay rate determined by experience and level of education in our sports or applicable industry.

PCSS Big Mountain Team Coach

A Freeski Division Big Mountain Team Coach is a role that reports to the Big Mountain Head Coach, as well as the Freeski & Snowboard Division Director. Assist in the responsibilities of improving overall program success measures including, but not limited to, athlete skill performance, member retention and acquisition, annual member satisfaction and financial growth. Administration related to training, travel, safety, and competitions at all resorts the athletes train, travel and compete at.

Employee shall, in good faith, devote his/her best efforts to his/her employment and perform diligently and in good faith such duties as are or may be from time to time required by the organization, whose duties shall be consistent with the position as set forth above.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Term of employment November 22, 2021 through April 1, 2022. 
  • Acquire and Maintain CPR/ First Aid, Heads Up Concussion
  • Able to use others in Paycom, Google Drive, and team schedule.   
  • Be empowered. Take on tasks/responsibilities
  • Be a positive mentor to athletes on and off the hill
  • Compliance with Safe Sport
  • Understand and agrees with the Vision and Mission statement of PCSS
  • Background and physical screening
  • Knowledge in Google Drive, Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to lead a group
  • Ability to assist and support the Head Coach and Division Director
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Must be able to follow the weekly curriculum
  • Expert skier who loves to ski
ATHLETIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • If an athlete on your training Group List does not show up, call and/or text to link up.
  • If an athlete is not cleared to leave on the Athlete Log, I will stay until a parent/guardian is able to pick them up (at all venues).
  • Be in contact with Big Mtn head coaches, working together, to help athletes be prepared for the next level.  
  • Provides ski demonstrations during sessions when applicable
  • Provides feedback to athletes
  • Communication of athletic program to athletes and parents  
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support and implement PCSS policies and procedures
  • Knowledgeable in Paycom, Clocking in/out, requesting time off, etc.      
  • Able to upload video onto a hard drive at the end of shifts.
  • Other tasks as assigned

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Lead, Train, and Mentor Freeride coaches.
• Recruit, interview, and hire coaching staff.
• Communicate effectively on scheduling requirements and registration to ensure reasonable class sizes.
• Foster and encourage an environment of safety and responsibility within the program.
• Act as liaison to the parents through the program to ensure effective communication and feedback.
• Coordinate, schedule, and produce IFSA freeride events in conjunction with Marketing, Events, and IFSA.
• Manage Freeride budget.
• Assist with freeride program product and pricing development.
• Manage operations of freeride program.
• Other tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
• Strong freeriding teaching skills to be able to a lead groups into all levels of terrain and conditions.
• The ability to set a Professional example both on and off the hill to his/her staff and students.
• Previous Freeride experience both in competition and coaching athletes preferred.
• Ability to mentor coaches within the program.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office and Teams.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
• This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays while in operation.
• Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
• Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis.
• Auditory and visual acuity to communicate with computers, phones, and mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
• Ability to work for extended periods of time on skis/snowboards standing, sliding, sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis.
• Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
• Able to spend long periods outside without breaks. (Minimum 2 hours)
