2021 FWT Qualification Update - More Spots For Region 2 Riders!

Read up to learn how 2020-2021 FWQ athletes in Region 2 will vie in separate circuits for the coveted Freeride World Tour qualification spots for the 2022 FWT.

We are taking solid steps toward putting together a functional FWQ Series in Region 2 this winter. If you have not yet already, please take some time to review the changes and adaptations we are implementing to safely conduct events during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We wanted to provide additional updates regarding an important temporary change to the FWQ Series structure in for the 2021 season and the path to Freeride World Tour Qualification for the 2022 Tour.

Please note that we are working hard to secure the 2021 event schedule. This is proving to be a slow process as resorts focus on their winter operating plans amid the pandemic. Know that we are on it and hope to drop some good news soon!

2020-2021 FWQ SERIES STRUCTURE

To guarantee the safety of everyone involved, organizers are working hard to ensure all events follow national and local COVID-19 restrictions. Due to the likelihood that the Canadian-US border will remain closed to non-essential travel, Region 2 currently plans to operate two separate FWQ Circuits in North America. Oceania/Europe/Japan will continue to run an international FWQ Series format in Region 1.

In summary: the three circuits that will provide a
qualification path to the 2022 Freeride World Tour are:

CIRCUIT 1: Canada

CIRCUIT 2: USA

CIRCUIT 3: Europe

THE DETAILS

  • Each athlete is permitted to earn one ranking per circuit based on event location, regardless of their nationality.

  • Points earned cannot be transferred between circuits.

  • This is a temporary change for the 2020-2021 season to allow us to continue to compete during the pandemic.

  • This is to preserve fairness in an uncertain environment regarding international travel between Canada and the US.
  • Our goal is to keep athletes closer to home and reduce the need to travel.

  • Athletes who begin the season in Canada may not collect additional points in the USA, even if the border should open.

  • Athletes who begin the season in the US may not collect additional points in Canada, even if the border should open.

  • This is a temporary change that will be adopted for the 2020-2021 season.
